I restore antique boats (canoes and similar small boats). Many of these are extremely historic and rare, so when replacing wood, I try to match grain and color as closely as possible. Pigment stains are a big problem on softwood like cedar and spruce, so I want to try dyes.
Question- does anyone know about the effects of light (UV) on Trans-Tint and Behlen’s Solar-Lux? At least some of these boats will see intense sunlight at times (at boat shows and on the water), but the dye will be under a UV-shielded marine varnish. Any thoughts?
Thanks, Michael
