I recently retired and am trying to learn cabinet making and fine woodworking skills. I am interested in acquiring used hand tools for use (not into collecting as a hobby) and wonder if anyone can provide some leads as where to visit. I am interested in US dealers as well as dealers in London and the United Kingdom. thx

Bumpa,
Congratulations on making it to retirement...and welcome. I visited a tool auction this past weekend up in New Hampshire which was a great experience and would have provided many answers to the questions your asking. One of the organizations I found out about this weekend was the Mid-West Tool Collectors (MWTC). They participate in these auctions and have regional meeting across the country. I also found out that every important tool sale is listed in a newpaper called the Newtown Bee...you can see their calander on-line and see when and where there is somthing scheduled in your area.
Lastly, the auction was put on by Martin J. Donnelly. You can google on his website and see what he auctioned.
I've been going to a weekly tag sale every Sunday morning and have found some good deals. The auction, and more specifically the parking lot, had a wonderful array of just about everything in hand tools...user stuff and collector stuff. Good luck, and again, welcome...my $.02 cents
