Has anyone been in Urban Timberworks in Portland? Just wondering if it is worth a stop when I am in Portland next month.
Thanks

PH,
Haven't dealt with them but they post a lot on craigslist. Been around for a few years. Prices seem so so for this neck of the woods.
Where are you located?

Even if they have price just average or a tad above, I'd give 'em my $$ for reclaimed urban lumber. It just kills me to see big trees cut up for firewood, when they could become stock for woodworkers. There is an urban-tree miller in Seattle, and David Kotz here on Bainbridge Island gets most of his trees for milling from storm-downed trees or must-cut-em trees. It's a tough business to get off the ground and make profitable.

That's how I get most of my lumber. I get it milled the way I like, and have access to a lot of stuff that just isn't commercially available. Where can you get 4" thick slabs of spalted maple, or 3' wide slabs of elm?Chris @ http://www.flairwoodworks.com and http://www.flairwoodwork.spaces.live.com)
