Ouch! Throwing a coiled bandsaw blade on the floor to uncoil it is not what i do.
The damage a concrete floor will do to those nice new sharp teeth is unimaginable.
A pair of stout gloves and uncoiling the blade by hand is my preferred method.
To recoil, again wearing gloves, I hold the blade in one hand with the blade touching the floor. A foot on the blade holds it steady while the blade is twisted by hand and the loops fall together neatly.
The blades I have are 3840mm long but I guess it works for all sizes.

Chris,
He's got it all wrong!
Ya throw it against the wall and if you're really good ye kin catch it when it uncoils and flies back atcha.
Dang rookies.

This was a common exercise in Jedi Knight school. We simply used The Force, no gloves allowed. ;-)
I just take them outside and toss it on the grass or snow in the winter. Love the twang !

Hi Chris,
Now that I got the levity out of the way.
Yes, I would think gloves are a necessity to coil/uncoil in my opinion. I take the blade off the BS and put my foot on it to hold the bottom of the loop on the floor. Then grasp the top with my right hand, twisted around to the left so my wrist points up (a bit awkward). Then while twisting (unwinding my wrist if you will?) reach down to my foot as the blade coils. This works for me.
To uncoil, I (with gloves on) grab the outer coil (from the above) betwixt my thumb and fingers and separate it slightly and then reverse the above slowly with both hands. This keeps the blade from springing loose in your face. The trick is to unwind it slowly, not difficult at all.

Bob HI!
I usually like what Mr. White posts.. I for one thinks he is a way smarter man that that video!
I forgive him because I do stupid stuff all the time! Just no videos of it (I hope).
Just for fun, last night, I had all the cars parked out onto the street. Many cars, my oldest granddaughter has all her college aged girlfriends here at all hours of the day and night. I guess they think I'm a pushover... They are right but sometimes I want to SCREAM!
I took a old one inch Lenox bandsaw blade. The width size I usually use. I was going to have it resharpen anyway. Resharpening cost more that a new blade but the guy does a way better job than the factor will ever do!
Anyway, that blade is about 187 inches long (I could be wrong, but something like that).. 18 inch Rickon bandsaw... I love it!
I took the 10 gauge solid copper wire 'straps' off that hold it together in a coil. I threw it onto the driveway AND RUN as fast as I could..
Many marks in my driveway.. AND lost a branch on my old blue spruce tree!
I had a good laugh.. All in all.. Finished my day with a smile on my face... Not sure my old tree is that happy!
Like some words posted in here.. Some get very upset and think directed to hurt them. Many just pokin' fun and probably most had a good thought that did not work out as other tried it...
Mr. White.. In my book of notes...Still good folks! And you Bob ALSO! And Mell, and many, many others! Old here and I forget names if I did not hear or see a day or two before!
