Turning a Driver for those long drives..
Here is one for the gang.
how would you turn a wooden golf driver head? The design would have an oval, flat front for striking the ball and a u shaped body behind the striking surface. the top of the body would be slightly flat with the bottom sides and back tapering up to meet the top.
Couple off centered axes and sawing flat surfaces I would think. Also heavy lead plate on the bottom to give the the ball lift.
Has anyone turned a golf driver?

On a CNC mill? I'd have to look closely at one to be sure, but I'm reasonably confident that the only part of a golf club head that is cylindrical is where it attaches to the shaft. Everything else has constantly varying curvature.

I've seen the factory set ups for the persimmon woods and also the Wood Brothers corkers. In both cases a hand carved master is used on duplicator lathes with the hosles finaled on a vertical mill. It's not normal duplication but almost the same as the way M-1 rifle stocks were done during WW II.
