I like the natural look and feel of tung oil with wax finish, however I just finished my solid cherry bedroom furniture and was very disappointed with the blotchy look to the wood. How can you apply this oil finish evenly?
Thanks, Clive

Clive,
Refer to the answer to gbeard on adding tint to oil.
You can add a wash coat of shellac to control the absorption rate of the oil.
However, this is the character of cherry. As the color deepens and mellows, I think you'll find the "blotches" are not so offensive to your eye.
Did you make any samples prior to finishing?
Peter
Thank you Peter, no I didn't make samples, I'm too impatient to finish the project! Same goes for the curing of the tung oil as I added the wax as soon as I thought the last coat of oil was dry, the result is ok but I can see it would have been easier and a better finish if I had waited for it to cure. Thanks for your advice.
