I’m fishing here again people. Where would I go looking (on-line) for a supplier of brass or stainless tube (say 1/16 to 1/4 diam) and rod or wire that would be a piston fit inside?
I’m looking for material for pivot hinges, still worrying away at alternative/simple/robust box hinge solutions.

Dont know if they've got exactly what you're looking for, but I've occasionally ordered brass from this place and have been pretty satisfied.

Waddaya mean it wont fit through the door?
I've placed an order for a mixture of 0.125 and 0.25 rod and tube in stainless, brass and copper.

Malcom, Ive bought those articals at hobby and model building shops
They sell brass, (At the model plane department)angle, flats, round and rectangular tubes (Some telescoping) Steinmetz.
Thanks Steinmetz
My nearest such shop is probably a 6 hour drive away ... and they don't operate on-line. It's easier (but more expensive) to shop in the US!

Malco, Why don't you phone in your order and pay them by mail?
The stuff comes in 12" lengths and costs around a dollar a length.Steinmetz.
I wouldn't know where to start, mate, nor what to ask for!
I got the link here, had the order in the mail from the US in about 15 minutes. Paid for, track and traced, too easy.

If my idea works, and I can engineer a tube and rod hinge that looks good and functions, I'll be ordering more ... and will shop around for best prices.
Thanks for all your help. Knots comes through again!

Interesting that it's cheaper to order from the states for you. You might also look at http://www.smallparts.com Telescoping tubing would be the term to search for.
Try Lewis Brass in NYC. They have all sizes and shapes. very cool to deal with. Aloha, mike
