In another post, I said this is a slow day for Coolbreeze. Raining in South Misssissippi so I worked on tuning the chimes on a new clock.
The attached photo is of a Grandfather clock I put together and finished. It is made from,–,,,a Kit!!! There I’ve siad it. It was, however the style my wife wants. Since I do not turn wood and don’t have the bits to make the gooseneck, I went the easy route. It was not that easy, however following instructions from the Kit company and the movement company.
The wood is cherry and the stain is somewhat darker than the photo appears. The finish was satin poly.

CB,
Very nice job on the clock!!! It's a classic-looking piece.
Kit??? As long as SWMBO is happy (and you're happy with the results of your work), who cares?!!

Tschüß!

Ah, my first love. I built one some thirty six years ago with a RAS, a lathe and some hand tools. The reason I know how long ago is because my wife was to come get me when I finished and bring it home too. She called me and said I had better find another ride home and that night we had a little daughter born to us. Now that daughter has laid claim to it and I need to build another one. Had no jointer or planer so used a rasp and a hand plane and sand paper. A lady saw it and decided to build one herself so ordered a kit. Stood for a year in the box so I finally took it upon myself to build it for her. The kit had so many imperfections that I had to take some of the assemblies apart and redo. Both were fun, but I think I would rather do them from scratch. I would like to build more of them. As I said - my first love. Yours is beautiful, by the way. I will be a treasure that you can pass on to many generations. Just make sure you have one for each of the kids.
The kit had so many imperfections
Tinker, the parts in this kit was of high quality except for the goosneck and return. They were from different knife sets and I had to do some "cat" work. My father-in-law once told me that any good cat can cover its mess. If you do woodwork, no matter how good you are, you will have to do "cat" work. Aa careful snip with my chisel and a little burnish work made the corners fit and only a craftsman, looking, can find it.
I like Lonnie Birds 18th Century reproductions and did his Penn. secretary for my wife. I wanted to do his Penn tall clock but my wife thought it was ugly. If it is ugly, I wonder what she thinks I look like??
Coolbreeze,
Very well done. Nice job.
Hey Cool,
Your talents never cease to amaze me! The "kit" was managed by a pro. Keep them coming.

How are things in the most beautiful place in Canada?? We had a really cold spell for the last few days. Darn near had frost:>) All of wife's flowers made it. Had to cover my tomatoes but they made it.
Good to see you are still peeping in. Thanks again for your help with my router cabinet. It is my favorite machine now. DC is not a problem now. Only when I cut the bottomside and completely cover the insert.
Cool
Lovely clock-I am envious. And you are very right about cat work- it is a good measure of a genuine woodworm.
