Is there a way to stain African mahogany a green tint ?
Everything that I try just seems to make it appear dark
or orange.

The problem is that mahogany has a fair bit of red in its natural color. Since red and green are complements they tend to "cancel" to a darker brown.
If it has to be african mahogany, you could first bleach it nearly white with two part wood bleach, and then use a green dye for the tint.
Dare I ask why you want green mahogany?
Hi Steve,
Thank you for your response. To be perfectly honest I thought I would build the
wife something nice for Christmas. I picked out the A. mahogany due to price. And
thought it might be fun to work with. It doesn't have to be a green tint. The project is
finished, a jewelry amoire, and we were looking to finish it with something
different. Even a cranberry tint would be nice if possible. But we will settle for just
about anything at this point. Thank you for any suggestions.
Steve's reply is right-on. Bleach it with strong 2-part bleach. It should be very creamy in color with occasional streaks of pink. Then a green dye will neutralize the pink and turn the cream to green.

Thank you, I'll let you guys know how it comes out.
