The switch on my Powermatic 8″ jointer has burned to a crisp twice in the last year. I’m finding that they no longer manufacture the switch that came in the machine.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Was there a recall that I missed?
The jointer is 4years old and sees daily use.

I doubt that the switch is a special design item.
I would take it out and have an electric motor shop look at it. I believe that they can find a replacement.

I would swap it out for a magenetic switch.

No need to go to a motor repair shop but they would be willing to tell you what you should be using as opposed to a supplier who will give you what ever you ask for. Typically you see mag starters on 3 hp and up so you don't need to go that route. I would think that you are running a 1-1/2 hp or 2 hp at the most. Any good electrical supply place will have something or Grainger, http://www.mcmaster.com or even Grizzly has retro-fit switches. Watch the amp rating and the voltage you are running at.
