I am considering purchasing a new router, a Triton to be precise. Has anybody had much experience with either the 2 1/2 HP or the 3 1/4 Hp model and which one would you recommend. I want to use this router in both table and plunge mode. Thanks for your response!

Woddy,
I bought the 3.25 Triton about a year ago and dropped it in the router table. For several years I had been wanting to do this because using my Dewalt 621 both ways (table, hand held) was a real pain. The pain I experienced came from two sources: First, adapting the Dewalt to the router table required quite a bit of set up and setting the height took forever. Both Tritons your considering are designed quite well for table use so that would not be an issue for you. However, the second issue may be something you'd have to deal with. In my setup, I attach a plate to the base of the router when it's in the table. That plate gets in the way big time when trying to use the fence in the hand held mode. There are work arounds to be sure...but its still an issue.
I've ben very pleased with the Triton 3.25

Thanks for your guidance
I am quite happy with my Triton 2 1/2. Do not have a table, but have used the machine with fences, with the the edge guide that came with it, and with the bushings that came with it, all with good success. The adjustments are straightforward, and the locking cam really locks well.
My only minor complaint pertains to the offset base that comes with the router. It is a pretty good base, and works well -- and mates well with the edge guide. However, as it has no knob or handle, it is not as convenient as some. Also, if the base had been calibrated, it would be much more convenient.

Buy 2 :-). A very nice tool indeed. I have used mine for a year now. It is sweet. I haven't used the guides yet, but have used it in and out of the table.
The dust collection port takes a hoes that is not readily available. Your dealer should have the spec. If not let me know and I can provide the Triton apart number.
When using in a table be mindful of the safety interlocks. If you lock the power switch on and use the plug to control power, you cannot engage the collet lock without first releasing the power switch.

I have owned the small version for a few months. No complaints, and plenty of attaboys for the features on this nifty item. As you probably know, it comes with an above-the-table crank handle so adjusting bit height is a snap. I was pleased to discover that my Festool hose fits the router's dust port.

Woddy-
I bought the 3 1/4 hp model, and while I am very impressed with the motor, I had issues with the plunging mechanisms. I mounted mine under a router table, and the first problems arose when the router wouldn't raise up enough to engage the spindle lock due to dust collecting in the rail cavity. Then it would no longer raise or lower without great difficulty. After discovering some of the plastic gears had stripped and/or broken, I took all the gears out and use only the manual lock.
Regards, Sean
I have had my 3.25 for almost a year and I love it. I have never had a problem with it. I have the plunge spring removed and it is in a router table.
My only (small) gripe is the wrench is stamped steel. It could be much better. It will eventually have to be replaced.
