Treatise on Woodworking Machines
Hi Folks,
I found a really interesting read here on the development of woodworking machines that I found on the Inet. There is a PDF version you can download if you’re so inclined as was I.
Enjoy!

Outstanding!
Thanks

Forgot to add, great xcut saw. It looks a little frisky but how else do you handle the population when there are no workhouses? :-)
Some the individual plates printed out on vellum, then soaked with a light tea wash would make great decor shots. "Of course appropriately framed with the 18th century miter unit".
John
John,
That was actually an accidental find. I was looking for information on pit saws and this came up in Google. I thought, ah what the heck, let's have a look. Then I noticed that you can download a .pdf copy of it soooooooooo.
Yeah, sure will make some interesting pics for the wall in the woodshop or office; appropriately framed of course!

I didn't make it active so unless it show as a link, don't click on it. Hope that helps.John

No dice. It appeared as a link and I tried clicking on it and copy and pasting.
Thanks anyways,Chris @ flairwoodworks

Try this:
First go here: http://books.google.com/
In the search box, type Treatise Construction Operation Wood-working
Click the Search button; the first match should be the book you want.
You do have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer, right?
-Steve
I can get to the page okay, but I don't know what to do from there. I've attached a picture of the page I get stuck at. What do I click on from here? (Yes, I do have Adobe Acrobat Reader).
Thanks to all for being persistent trying to help helpless me,Chris @ flairwoodworks

Strange. You must be missing some kind of browser plug-in, but I don't know why you're not being offered the opportunity to install it. It's as if the server thinks you don't have Acrobat Reader installed. Try this: Go to 40716.20 and click on the link for the attachment at the bottom of the message. What happens?
For the record, I've attached a screenshot of what that screen looks like on my machine. Notice that there's an additional Read this book tab at the top, along with a couple of buttons, Read this book and Download PDF. It also shows previews of selected pages.
-Steve
When I went to the 40716.20 thread, I was able to open the pdf file, though it took a while.
I had a look at your screenshot and tried to type in the site address as seen in the address bar but came up with an error message. It's one of those two buttons that I need to click on, right? Is it possible to Copy Shortcut of the Download PDF button?Chris @ flairwoodworks

Chris,
Just read your post to Steve and you said it took a while to download that 900+KB file from another post within Knots.
What kind of connection to the Inet do you have. The file we are talking about is 13+ meg, more than 10 times the size of the one you could load.
Originally when I found the Treatise book I was looking for muley saw.
Try this: Launch a new instance/window of Internet Explorer and put muley saw into the search box. Does it point you to the Treatise file in Google Books?

I'm not sure what type of connection I have. I think it might be cable.
I tried searching for muley saw and it brought me to the same page (the correct one). I think that my problem is that I don't see the two buttons Read this book and Download PDF.Chris @ flairwoodworks

For what it's worth, I was searching for a book on trim and clicked on a link to Google books, where I was able to read an excerpt. I decided to try getting the Treatise again and, lo and behold, it worked! I didn't do anything different or sign up for an account. Anyhow, it's downloading as I type this message.Chris @ http://www.flairwoodwork.spaces.live.com

I went there.. I saw.. Heirloom Quality Screwdrivers For Sale
I have one from when I was about 5 years old that Grandpa gave me.. Handle chewed up a bit by my Cocker Spinal!
You are not alone. I can't see the buttons either, but then I'm not using XP. Seems to make no difference whether or not I'm in Internet Explorer 6 or Mozilla Firefox, despite having Adobe Acrobat loaded and a Google account.........
Damn, I'm stumped as to what is wrong. If the file wasn't so big I'd post it here in Knots (13.1 meg.). Sorry folks.

I've already contacted Google and they did reply fairly promptly by email. I gave them my current OS (Win/2000 Pro Workstation) together with all the other details (Service Pack level, Adobe Acrobat version, firewall and virus checker details, web browser versions, etc). They explained that the software is still in Beta and thanked me. I just wondered if there's something in Windows XP that makes this work but which is missing in Win/2000.
I hope that they can sort it out in due course as I for one do not intend to go XP (next stop Linux)
Scrit
I just tried it in Win2000. Works fine.

Chris,
If you right click on the title down in the Other Versions box does your browser bring up a popup bos with a selection such as Save Target as option? What browser are you using?

If I right click on the title in Other Editions, I can "Save Target As". That just saves a link, however. I am using Windows Explorer. I think it's something really simple, equivalent to "plug it in".Chris @ flairwoodworks

John,
Link works fine for me. I also get the Download option in the frame on the right side. I think Chris needs to establish a Google account.
