For a quick and cheap fix to an old, legless couch a friend of mine has, I cut legs from a treated 4×4 I had laying around. It was a “new” 4×4 and hadn’t seen the sun. Should he be worried about his carpet with the treated lumber legs? I told him we should stick the wood in the sun for a while to “dry them out”, but it was a rushed deal and he needed legs. I don’t know anything about how treated lumber is treated so any info regarding its ability/lack there of to harm the carpet that you could provide would be great.
Thanks

does anyone have any info?
Never did something like that... No first hand experience..Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming.... WOW!!! What a Ride!
My instinct tells me that this isn't a good plan. Treated lumbe is usually pretty green and then the treatment is put on. I would expect that the carpet would stain from either the sap & water from the wood, or from the treatment chemical, or both.
Have your friend put something under the legs to avoid staining the carpet.
I'd be more worried about something else... Does your friend have any small children or pets in the house. These preservatives are not healthy for people or pets. The 'old style' CCA treated stuff is not meant for indoor use. CCA needs LOTS of air and sunshine to fully dry and is poisonous. That is how it kills the bugs and microbes that destroy wood that is in contact with the ground. It has been banned (no new stuff being made) but old stock on hand can still be sold. I have not yet used (or read thew instructions) on the new replacement stuff.

Thank you for your comments.
I will offer the suggestion to at least put something under the legs if not replace them with a "safer" wood. No kids or pets, but better to be safe than sorry I guess.
