Hi,
I’m was hoping that someone here would have a woodworking plan for a medium sized Pirate’s chest (treasure chest) I was planning on building it my nephrew’s birthday. I have searched the internet for some ideas and would like to build the one with the rounded top. I came across 3 different designs. The bottom is pretty straight forward. I can either use rabits and dados or finger joints to join the bottom parts together. It’s the top that’s going to be a bit tricky. I need a template for the 2 rounded side pieces. The slats have to fit snugly. Just wondering what the height(radius) of the middle side piece should be.

Don't need no stinkin' plan. Just make it so it looks good to you. After all, Blackbeard's not gonna show up and contest the authenticity!
Think about laminating a few layers of bending ply to do the top to avoid coopering the thing. You'll need to use a solid piece for the front and back edges of the top to recieve the hinges and lock, though. (It's gotta have a big, honkin' lock, right?) Maybe get some "old-fashioned" cut nails to fasten the whole thing together. (I think you can get cut masonry nails in the HW store - they'd work.) You also might want to paint it black and grunge it up a bit so it looks like it's been burried for a century or so -- "That's not a mistake, its 'distressed' "! Oh yeah, and fill it with gold dubloons and pieces of eight. Maybe even hide it and provide a treasure map so he can find it hidden in the bushes somewhere, right next to the skeleton of some marooned former crew member. Arrrrrrrrgh, Matey!
