Traditional Measured Drawings

Anyone know where I can find detailed measured drawings of traditional American architecture?

I want to panel my fireplace and would like to reproduce one of the older styles i.e. georgian, federal, colonial.

Been searching the web to no avail.

Mario Rodriguez Fireplace Mantels

It will produce several places to buy the book new or used. Great book on the subject you are looking for.

Glancing at my copy now: Colonial, Georgian, Federal, Arts and Craft, Victorian, Green and Green, Art Deco, Contemporary.

Shows both design and technique, in depth.

Wallace Nutting, vol. 3 has a number of drawings of fireplaces and of paneled walls including fireplaces.

Remember that with fireplaces, the starting place for measurements is the necessary opening for the firebox with the code mandated (or manufacturer's specified) clearances between the opening and combustible materials.

Although it doesn't have any plans per se, The Elements of Style does have overall measurements on many items. It's a good source for understanding the difference between styles as well as for ideas. Lots of pics, lots of ideas...

There is an old series of books published by Arno Press through the Early American Society. Wonderful measured drawings by Kenneth Clarke and Frank Chouteau Brown along with photos. It's a series of several books that are no longer in print. They can still be found. You will be shocked at how elaborate and detailed some of the fireplace walls are. The architects of the day were enamored with the cyma curve and went nuts with it and the arrangement of moldings. Some of the series are regional, homes of Connecticut for example. I've never seen any other books with such detail along with traditional draftsperson drawings.
