I have a band saw, I will NOT say what brand, but it is not considered a good one (and it is not a delta) I got it and used it a bit and it was OK. But I could NOT get it to resaw to save my life. Then I went to a seminar and the guy talked about what you need to do to make a resaw work. SO I bought and OK band saw blade, then I went home took the whole saw apart and put it back together again. Not much work really took about a hour or two and when I was done with it I can resaw with the fence that came with it better then most peaple saw then can with saws 3 to 6 times as much. So I sometimes wonder if the issue is set up as much as anything else.

I have a feeling that a clock design and building was an article in fine woodworking at some stage sorry cant remember when. Depending on the style and period of what you are building try looking on the net.

You can make it fool proof but not idiot proof

I am attaching a photo of a clock I built. Actually I built three of the same thing. A grandfathers clock such as this is built of three boxes, the hood, the waist and the base. the hood in my design is removable, for easier acces to the movement and to facilitate moving. When you use the term "crown" are you referring to the hood or are you referring to the swans neck design at the top of the hood?
I can't seem to attach a file to send a photo. Ask finewoodworking how I can send a photo or send me your email address and I will send the photo direct.

Hi, Rick,
About 3 or 4 years ago, Lonnie Bird built a lovely clock in FWW. There was a video, but I don't know if you can access old video clips.
Hope that helps,
Ozzy
Pennsylvania Tall Clock by Lonnie Bird was in FWW issues #171 and 172. Lonnie Bird documented how he went about building the flat top clock that he designed based on details found on many 18th century clocks built in and around Pennsylvania.

Thanks for that - I'm sorry if I muddied the waters there.
Take care,
Ozzy
Rick,
There is a plan for a Newport tallcase clock in the Nov/Dec 1985 issue of FWW that has what you are looking for.
Tom
