I want to make a 24″ tool rest from my Nova lathe. I will be turning a lot of chair legs. I have seen pictures of a shop-made rest, mostly of hard wood. Does anyone have or know of a good design and drawing? Tinkertom

Ernie Conover has a shopmade toolrest in "Turning for Furniture" and in "The Lathe Book". One end is attached to the tailstock assembly. That end is a metal 90 degree thing made up of a carriage bolt with the head cut off. A locknut hold the threaded end in a tapped hole in the tailstock. ..The metal thing has a collar with set screw to adust height. The wood on this end has multiple holes to adjust length of the wood toolrest.
The other end (headstock) holds the tool rest with a stopped pin going into the toolbbase. "Turning for Furniture" is a good reference.
