Hello Peter & friends,
Whenever I get toward the bottom third of a can of polyurethane it seems to be a bit thicker than a fresh can. What’s the best solution for thinning this a bit? This seems to happen with the indoor/outdoor spar urethane as well as regular polyurethane. Is this normal? Thanks.

The first thing I would suggest when you're getting to the bottom of the can, transfer it to a smaller can or jar. The urethane is reacting to the air in the can and is starting to oxidize.
One of the ways I deal with this is to put a piece of saran wrap on top of the finish to basically seal out any air.
If you want to thin this, pour off a small amount and mix it 5050 with thinner. If you can let it sit for a while so much the better. Use this mixture to thin the thickened urethane. You'll find it incorporates easier and with less stirring ( and a lot less bubbles)
