Anybody out there attend one of The Woodworking Shows events yet in Portland or St Paul? If so, was it any better than that mess they put on last year? Were there many vendors? How were the “education” events?

Not an answer to your question but a comment: I was surprised to find that they have dropped Detroit (Novi) from the schedule this year.

There were a lot of complaints about the lack of quality exhibiters, way too many gadget and non woodworking related booths. So it was dropped. No one in Michigan has any money to spend on hobbies anyway….<!----><!----><!---->
Detroit is back - Dallas has been dropped
Because they lost to the Rams?
Really? What is the date? Is it still in Novi?Last year's show was not nearly as good. There were no seminars and the number of exhibitors was way down - but I STILL look forward to attending.Frosty"I sometimes think we consider the good fortune of the early bird and overlook the bad fortune of the early worm." I just got a mailing on it. It is Nov. 21-23 in Novi.
12/5-6-7
I wonder if anyone will be at the show to make it worth going to? Also anyone planing on attending the Novi show?

I am.
Well maybe those of us in the area that plan on attending can pick a time and meet at the show. Then even if it is not any good at least we will have a chance to meet one another. I will have to check my schedule ( I thought the show was dead and gone until today) but I think Saturday works better for me as I seam to recall I am doing something on Sunday. But not really sure.

I can make it, let me know when you are going to be there..
The last Woodworking show I attended was disappointing. Recently spoke to a Laguna sales rep who said they were pulling out from most of these public venues.
It would be great to connect with Knots community members at these shows to talk, share, demo. ask and plan
The downturn in the woodworking shows started a couple of years ago. I always suspected it was in large part due to the growth of internet sales, taking away from the brick-and-mortar dealers. It wouldn't be surprising if the whole industry really took it in the shorts this year and next, given the overall state of the economy.
I would'nt be surprised if we all took it in the shorts for as long as it takes to pay off the debt the parasite class has foisted off on us.

Hey Don,
Kinda reminds one of the early nineties when the FDIC was cleaning out all the greedy banks with questionable mortgages.
This time mebbe it will include the get rich quick porkers on Wall street too.

Ya know back a few years I really liked DIY network, they had some pretty decent shows, but not much any more. I really miss David Marks stuff. Now, if you do spot something it usually involes mdf/concrete/metal tubing, and tile.Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
A month ago "The Woodworking Show" was NOT going to come to Michigan. I just learned that they have canceled Dallas and added Detroit; Dec. 5-7. I checked out the program on-line and it really is a shadow of its former self.
Then, in the mail yesterday, I received a flyer from "The WoodWorks Show'; November 21-23. Their program looks pretty comprehensive.
I plan on attending the November show. It looks like they have a lot more to offer - and a slightly different format. Of note: The Taunton Press is listed as an Exhibitor for the December show. That's a first I believe.

I checked the website:
"Detroit is back by popular demand!" - but they* goofed and lost the good exhibit space on the west side of town.
"Dallas postponed until next year!" - they* say Dallas is unlike any other town. Too many transients so their mail list doesn't work well . They can't sign-up exhibitors without attendance.

I think that outfit is on the way out. I'll know better after I attend the "WoodWork" show.

Yeah, me either. They said attendance was down. Well no wonder. In the late nineties I went and could say for all three days with seminars, classes, and a lot of vendors. Last year , I had to really stretch to stay the first day only. Give us a good show, and we will come. Incidentially, I drive three hours to get to Dallas. I will try Kansas City this year. It's only about the same distance the other way from OKC. This is, according to them, one of their best attended shows. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, again.
