I’ve been sorting through nearly 40 years of tool collection and have found several things I thought were spectacular at the time, but have never seen the light of day since.
What tool did you buy, thinking you couldn’t complete that next project without it, only to find it a long time later wondering why?

My . . .
My left-handed screwdriver? ;-)
I tend to be fairly judicious in my tool buying (AKA cheap), so I don't have many tools that don't get used at least on an occasional basis.
I'm left handed!!!
And I've been looking for those.
About a year ago I finally threw out an old router template setup from craftsman that I'd had since the mid '70s. It was this monstrous contraption for routing an outline on flat cabinet doors. A client insisted on that specific design for her kitchen and I bought the set just for that job. It took a full day to build and configure the jig and about 20 minutes to route all the doors. Parked that puppy in the back of the shop and never touched it again.

Ah, the irony
There is some irony in that tool not scoring well in terms of usage. ;-)
Irony
It's nothing more than a fancy razor knife. The one time I used it was to fabricate some satin wood stringing.
