Hi;
Does anyone know of “aftermarket” riving knives? And if so, whats your opinion?
I have a Delta hybrid saw (10in, 1.75 hp motor) and I hate the typical splitter so I modify my inserts with plastic “splitter” knives. Basically my zero inserts have plastic shims equal to the blade width set a quarter inch back from the highest working blade height and trued to alignment. Multiple inserts for different kerfs, and even a couple set for 45 and 22.5 degrees (pain in the keester getting these right). Works very well but I must be diligent and monitor/replace when they become out of alignment, worn, etc. I’d like to use a proper riving knife but I have not seen aftermarkets for these yet.
Thanks for any input you may have.

Rob,
I've got no experience with these, but they have been mentioned numerous times on this forum:

Somebody experienced with the BORK (Bolt On Riving Knife) should be along momentarily...

Yup and I really like it.
I've had it installed on my old Unisaw and have no complaints. It is a bit fussy getting it aligned but well worth the extra effort. It doesn't interfere with my sled either which is a smaller version of the Ultimat Crosscut Sled featured in FWW a while back.

Ditto what Bob said about the BORK. Have had one on my Shop Fox 1677 for ~ 15 months now, and it works as advertised.
Oh, and it doesn't interfere with bevel cuts as well. Forgot to mention that, sorry.

the shark guard has a riving knife, and you can order just the riving knife from him if you'd like
If your Delta hybrid already has a riving knife mechanism, you may be able to get a riving knife from Lee Styron. However, if your Delta has a regular splitter, you can get only a Shark Guard splitter. A riving knife mechanism is built into the saw. The BORK is an add-on mechanism for duplicating the action of a riving knife. If you don't have either the original set-up or the replacement BORK, you won't have a riving knife.
