Just came across this:
SawStop or not, isn’t this guy just asking for trouble with his left hand where it is? What happened to push sticks and blade guards and all that good stuff?

Something weird here. The link goes to the appropriate page, but there is a big white blank space where the video is supposed to be (to click) AND the damn page freezes my browser (Firefox..the latest). I tried it a number of times with the same result.
Hello SYSOP!

Peter,
What platform, what version and what "add on tools "enabled?BB
XP, with all the updates. The browser has a number of add ons including Adblock plus. The weird thing is that it is ONLY this page that causes trouble. All other Taunton pages and videos, and all other sites for that matter, work OK.Cheers,Peter

Peter,
Are you using the "No-script" add on? It's page redirect block requires some foresight and Firefox's own 3rd party cookie block can also be involved. Try with No script- (if you have it) disabled and 3rd cookies on and see what happens. Just thoughts. Ad block usually isn't a problem unless the ad is embedded /tagged with what your trying to see. Also, there is usually a faint "block" tag visible that you can hit.BB
Hi,I checked and do not have that installed (No script). All Taunton cookies are allowed. Remains a mystery. BTW, thank for your help with this,Cheers,Peter

He's using a SawStop, maybe that's why he's being so sloppy? No way I would conduct that operation in the same way, geeeeezzzzzz.
You have a point there. I do it all the time. Not saying it is the correct way to do things. However, I never hold the stick in my left hand with a 'stick' that narrow.
For narrow rips I have a hardwood block I hold in my left hand that is used to keep the 'stick' held to the fence. ALWAYS BEHIND the blade!
I thought the way he reached over the blade to gather the 'sick' is much more dangerous!
I also use a 1/2 inch dowel rod that is wrapped in that soft rubber tape used for bicycle handle grips to push the 'stick' to the fence.
Just my thoughts.
BTW, jig or no jig, using a hand on a narrow piece of stock such as that (instead of a push-stick) is how a friend of mine recently lost a good part of his left index finger.
The lack of a guard is probably the usual "for visual clarity".
Well, maybe you could forgive the lack of a guard because it would interfere with the camera's view of what's going on. Maybe. But I was really surprised to see a FWW editor in a FWW video placing his bare hand within a couple of inches or so of a spinning table saw blade. I also cringed along with WillGeorge when the guy in the video reached back behind the blade to get his sticks.Somebody who didn't know any better could easily think, "Well, if this expert does this in a video produced and promoted by this leading woodworking magazine, then it must be okay."I think we deserve better from FWW. Otherwise, we might just as well watch the goons on YouTube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5deG_Po7KQ-- Russ
That was REALLY scary! I hope he does not end up on his garage floor in a pool of blood.

Expert because they work for a WW mag might be viewed as skeptical by some. Not to mention anyone in particular but... that young Forrest Girl might fall into that category.
Just kiddin' ya, Miss Jamie! :>)
Sarge..
Hi everyone,
I am new to this site and still finding my way around. Just watched the idiot on the You Tube site and cringed!!! That guy will soon be missing a few digits if he keeps on cutting dado's like that.
I am from across the pond in the UK,and we are not allowed to have dado's on our table saws it seems that only God knows why. They are allowed on radial arm saws!! The manufacturer has to cut the arbor on the table saw so it only accepts a standard blade. Anyway will be dropping in again when I have looked at the rest of the site.
Happy woodworking to you all.
