Blade Guard Question:
I just purchased and set up a Powermatic 2000 in my shop. I love the riving knife. I have not set up the blade guard. I am contemplating purchasing an overarm guard such as the Brett. Does anyone know if there are guards that would be compatible with the riving knife on the powermatic?

I think almost all of the overhead gaurds should work. I know that the Biesemeyer one will, and am confident that the Delta Uniguard, or Exactor will also.
The Penn State dust removal/blade guard system that I've been using for three years should work. It's very easy to adjust, does a good job of catching dust from the cut, and costs about half what the competition offer.
I'll second the motion on the Penn State model, especially if cost is a consideration. One of the things I like about it is how easy it is to adjust relative to the blade (sideways, forward/back) both during installation and afterwards.
There are quite a few reviews of the Excalibur out there. Take a look at this page.

I have the penn state overarm and its good for the money. It's not nearly as beefy as the the big names. The plastic cover that goes over the blade is thin plastic. The expensive models have much thicker materials. Would I still buy it again. You bet. It fit my needs and pocket book. I curious why you are replacing the gaurd that came with it. When I looked at the display model at Woodcraft, it looked pretty good.
Hi Forestgirl,
It looks like the Excaliber is no longer available.

I thought I saw it on Amazon this morning. 8>| No?forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Hi forestgirl,
Well, it's there, but the fine print says "Note: This item is currently not available.", and my search elsewhere comes up with the same restriction.

Oh, my. I was looking for the Sommerville's web site and couldn't find it -- seems like it was there just a few months ago. Must be belly-up?forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I could be wrong, but I think they were purchased by General. Check out this link: http://www.general.ca/excalibur/pagetitre/an/welcome.html
Wow, good job Paladin!!! Interesting. Maybe the price on the Excalibur guard will come down a bit. forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Forestgirl,
I believe the Excalibur is on sale for about $360.00. Check this link

Yep, it's on the bottom of page two. Hopefully, Mike saw it. I wonder if they're available at this time, or if they've yet been "inegrated into [their] production schedule" (earlier link to General).forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I called a local supplier and they have one available at the sale price, so they are available.
I am impressed with the Shark Gaurd. They do have one available for the powermatic I understand. http://www.leestyron.com/sharkpm2000.php

I bought an Exactor and got a good deal from the manufacturer on ebay (new) for one of last years models. Very beefy and I am pleased.
I think it for the most part they are all universal.
You might want to check out the Shark Guard. I can't remember the URL but if you Google it I'm sure you would find it. I've heard good things about it.
