i have been woodworking for about a year or so and looking to upgrade my contractors table saw. not sure if i want to spend the money for a cabinet saw ($2000+) so i have been looking at the hybrid saws ($1000-1500). The hybrids fit my budget. I have many looked at the Jet and Steel City models because these are the one my local supplier carries in my price range ($1000-1500). Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with either of these brands or another brand to look at.
thanks

If you can do 220v go with a cabinet saw. You can get a good one in that range. Several options. Get a used older machine, or a there are new in that price. I have the Grizzly 1023 and its been great for years now.

If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it.
And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
Re Steel City. You might want to wait a week or two until the four new hybrids arrive at your dealer, if they haven't already. Two have granite top, two have cast top. Obviously, though, nobody has any experience of them. All four have the riving knife which will soon be required. Steel City has promised a new sales flyer soon. If you don't care about the riving knife, you may well be able to get a good deal on one of the current models.
SC calls them cabinet rather than hybrid, but their "true" heavy-duty cabinet saws are the deluxe line. The hybrids are available as 110v 1.75 hp, or 220v 3hp.

thanks about the advice on the new hybrids with a riving knife. that was a feature i was looking for but not offered on many saws in my range. based on the reviews i have read about the current models this should only add to it.
Take a close look at the Jet ProShop, Fine little saw w/ 1 3/4 HP and other nice features.

You can still get the Steel City 3HP cabinet saw, right-tilt, with titanium top through Woodworker.com for $1200, no shipping, comes direct from the Steel City warehouse. It's the 2nd listing on this page.

If you can't or don't want to take the step to a cabinet saw, the two hybrids you mentioned would definitely be on my shortlist. The Steel City is a kissing cousin to the Craftsman 22124, which I've owned and been happy with for 3 years. The SC has cabinet mounted trunnions that make it a snap to align, and add mass (425#). The Jet has a nice one piece arbor carriage with a blade shroud for DC. Both look like nice saws to me.
Good luck!
I purchased a Grizzly Hybrid (G0478) and am very happy with it.

I also added the outfeed roller table (37").

It's 2 hp motor can be wired for 100/220 volt.
BTW a good blade make all of the difference in the world (forrest wwII).
good luck
