Gary, I’m making leafs for a dining room table. I have 9 inch wide quatersawn red oak boards that I was going to use. I’m wondering whether I should rip boards in 4 and a half inch width and reglue or leave boards intact. I’m trying to minimize cupping. The wood is very well seasoned. Thanks for the help in advance.

Hey there,
I'm not a big fan of ripping and re-gluing boards. Particularly if you know the source and drying of the lumber. All that said, I would restrain them somehow. Normally you attach small aprons to them to hold them flat. If this isn't a part of your design, then battens or breadboard ends would do just fine. Good luck. Gary
Thanks for the help. I was thinking along the same lines
