Hello,
I have rough sawn cherry and beech that is 1″ thick.
I want to use it make a table top at least 3/4″ x 40″ x 8ft
My plan is to use the beech board down the middle because it it is about “15 wide and I think would look quite striking.
One of the concerns expressed by my Uncle Jim, who has more experience than I do, is that I might end up with something less than 3/4″ after jointing, planing, and sanding. He thinks this might be too thin and not look right or really be substantial enough.
What do you think?
I would also welcome any general input from anyone who has made a large dinning room table before.
Dan

Hi Dan,
Would you mind reposting this in Knots? I'm sure you'll get a quick response there and there will be more ideas about table design.
We've sadly had to make some changes with Ask the Experts so we're a bit short staffed in this forum.
If you don't get a response, send me an email through my profile and I'll see if I can get another editor here to respond to you.
So sorry for the inconvenience,
Gina
