Suggestions for Dust Collector Remote Control
I’d like to add a remote to my dust control system. I work in a garage shop, so the “trek” to my dust collector isn’t really that far- but the DC is in a corner behind a bunch of stuff, so it’s a bit annoying to get to. So…
I dutifully searched the forums here, and didn’t find many posts newer than 2008. So… asking the question- does anyone have a preferred remote control for their DC?
My DC is a 2 HP Jet unit (DC-1200VX-CK1 Dust Collector, 2HP 1PH 230V, 2-Micron Canister Kit)
In an ideal world, I’d love for the fob to be about the size of a car key fob, but I’m open to opinions…
Thanks in advance!

I use the iVac remote. With a 2hp DC, they will recommend you use their or other similar contactor / relay to take the initial power surge along with their switch box. I have this set up and it works great. There is a thump from the contactor, but you get used to it. The bonus is you can add automated blast gates anytime. The remote is larger than a key fob, but it is well sealed and is programable to gates and switch box. I use the remote with manual gates on some movable tools and vac hose, floor sweep etc. Along with automated gates on stationary tools.
I did the remote (Long Ranger) thing for years. I was periodically annoyed that I would leave blast gates open, or I couldn't find the remote. Sometimes I would skip turning the dust collector on for small cuts.
The solution was to have the dust collector controlled by the blast gates. Open the blast gate, dust collector on, close, off.
Setting this up is simpler than it sounds, and very cheap. I set it up for seven blast gates. I really like it.
Wire, microswitches, and a relay are the basic parts. All of that was less than $50.

I bout the remote unit that Jet sells. The fob looks exactly like a car remote fob. Works great, and it was made to go with the Jet dust collector.
For my 110v 1HP Grizzly dust collector, I use an inexpensive remote light switch controller. The controller plugs into any socket, your dust collector plugs into it, and you stick or screw the remote switch plate--which is powered by an AA or AAA battery-- wherever is convenient for you. You can buy these at any big box store for under $20.
My DC is 240 Volts also. I bought a LONG RANGER over 10 years ago and it's still working fine today.
I use a Christmas light controller, works good and cheep.
A 240 V Christmas light controller; I am intrigued :-)
In late December you can see his house from space.
240, 241. Whatever it takes.
I posted the video of my set up above, and a couple of people have contacted me for details of how it was done.

There are several videos available with step by step guides, I used this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqJ1gggJfO4
The controller is a simple relay available on Amazon for less than $10. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FVH...UTF8&psc=1
A switch, outlet, metal or plastic workbox, wire and a bag of microswitches (less than $7) is everything needed.

So cool! I love your shop too!
Thanks Ben
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. (John, I’m jealous of the blast gates!)
I’ve ordered the JET setup. Will let y’all know how it works out.
Cheers
