Hi all and Happy New year. I have recently purchased a new Delta Industrial Shaper as well as a Delta 4 roller power feeder for making doors, moldings, crown etc. My question is there an ideal location for the mounting of the power feeder base, Because the instruction from delta may I be frank, Suck. I currently have the base located to the back left corner and left of the spindle. When doing flat cutting tasks It works just fine, the question is can the stock feeder be oreantated horizontal safely to more effectivly place the feed rollers against the fence for running base and casing style trim details. Grabing thin stock from the top, on a 5/8″ thick piece of material seems for the lack of better words, unsafe even with a stock feeder. I do use feather boards but with thin tall stock it just does not seem the best way of doing this task. There for, In the past I have rotated the power feeder over and around to do this but always need to remove the gear box cover for clearance under the goose neck. I was wondering if anyone here has a better way with out the need to remove the gear cover. Thanks Tony Czuleger |

Tony,
What is the model number of the Delta feeder you have? The Delta feeder I'm looking at in a catalog looks like it should rotate around on the 45 degree axis to set the rollers against the fence without any problems.

John the shaper is #43-455 and the power stock feeder is 36-855 240volt 4 roller.

The feeder you have has a pivot bolt set at 45 degrees at the front of the machine. If you loosen it, it should allow you to flip the feeder over so that the face of the wheels are vertical. It would appear that there is enough room for the gear box cover to easily clear the support arm assembly.
I can see why you are frustrated with the instruction sheet, it really doesn't explain much.

John what I will do is rotate the main Goose neck which is connected to the main horizintal arm. the bolt heads are currently facing up so I will rotate this 180 degrees and see if this will work. If I don't the gear case hits the under side if the goose neck. I will take some digital shot Wed. and email them to you.
Its frustrating when the instructions are so poor. I also had to mill off the groves from the delta fence because small details would rock into the grooves a bad design as well. Laguna had the same issue with there TS table saw top a friend had purchased and found the grooves to be dangerous when ripping small strips.
Groves are no good.
Hello John I went to the shop Wedneday and did the one thing I did not do and that was rotate the power feeder 180 degrees and then rotate the stock feeder down towards the spindle while rasing the feeder as well which allowed me then to position the feeder with the wheels facing the fence. So simple, but just bouncing the delema off of you and your feed back about turning thing 45 got me to thinking.
I do have picks but not sure how to post here. I can forward to you and you coud post if you like.
