Steel City 17″ VS Drill Press Prototype
At the recently concluded Edmonton Wood Show, I had good discussion with Paul Lafrance from Steel City Toolworks on their 17” VS Drill Press. Paul had helped me earlier this year, when I reported shipping damage on my 8” Industrial Jointer. Paul told me that the VS Drill Press is to be expected sometime in spring next year. He was kind enough to send me the following day a couple of pictures of the prototype in development and also permited me to post these online. Now all I have to do is wait until they ship so I can place my order. J

In addition they had their Granite tools on display (Tablesaw, Jointer and Bandsaw) that looked very solid. What impressed me most though was their shaper that comes with three spindles on each of ½, ¾, and 1”. After looking at that puppy I am seriously rethinking about building a router table.

Ahhhh, geeez, I'm such a sucker for a classy logo!
Is the quill travel on that VS drill press going to be as good as on the current model (6")??
FG,
Judging by the length of the depth stop post, I would say yes. That 6" quill travel is a real treat!Chris @ http://www.flairwoodwork.spaces.live.com
