I’d like to get some old stanley 750 chisels but the red stain on the handles bugs me. I occasionally see some with no red stain. (I know, its just aesthetics…..)
Is there an easy way to remove this stain besides sanding it all down?
I’ve attached pictures of both a stained and unstained handle to make it clearer.
thanks to any with advice!

Make or buy new handles, and don't stain them....
Have you tried lacquer thinner?

The answer is no. I own a set of 750s with the red stain and like the color. But, if you really want to get the red out sanding is really the quickest and easiest way to lose the stain. Sanding a couple of minutes on each chisel should do it. Or give up on the Stanleys altogether and buy the Lie-Neilsen chisels instead. I also have a set of them and I can tell you the LN chisels are "way better". Plus, he hasn't uglied them up yet with the orange stain he is now putting on his saw handles.

OK, manual labor it is. I'll transition to the LN's when my student loans transition to zero.
thanks!

Save the 750s!! In red!
Sell them on ebay (just the handles) and then buy L-N replacements.
