Just picked up a really nice Stanley #12 scraper at an antique store. Should I make the bevel at 45 degrees, or just go with the “standard” flat top, with two cutting edges?
Also, how well does this scraper perform? With the thin blade that is not supported the last 1″ or so, I wonder if it works all that well.
As you can guess from my post, I haven’t found the time to work with it.
Regards,
John

Well, in MHO, my #80 works better than my #12. But, that just may be because of me. My #12 blade is sharpened at 45, while my #80 is sharpened at 90. I sharpened the 80, but haven't changed the initial grind that was on the 12 other than to hone it up a bit. I like the way the handles are closer to the work on the #80. Seems to give better control. I use the shank of a solid carbide router bit to put the hook on the blades.
