Spray lacquer over wax finish? Undoing the damage…
I’m afraid I have lacquered over some kind of wax finish. I bought a new piece of furniture and lacquered it for protection. It took months to dry on the top surface. Soon after it started blistering and peeling. Is there anything I can do to fix this without stripping the entire thing? Also, I don’t know for sure it was a wax finish, I’m just assuming based on results. Any ideas are appreciated.

You could make your own furniture. Then you will know what is on the wood.

that you are encouraging I see. I thought maybe you could instruct him on the values of getting a plane blade sharp enough to cut it off

Lacquer
Did you use spray can finishes ? They apply fairly thin -
If you sprayed over a wax finish with lacquer it may be worthwhile to try and wash off the lacquer with lacquer thinner. Try in a small spot first -

Unfortunately, no, not a spray can. And three coats.
