Greetings All,
I’ve always wanted to try spray finishing but the cost and lack of skill set have detered me. Recently I’ve started adding color to my woodwork. I’ve been using General Finishes water based Milk Paint – applying with a foam brush, wet sanding and using scotch pads. I’ve gotten good results but I want to take it up to the next level.
Money is an object. I’ve seen the Earlex Spray Station HV5500 at Woodcraft for $360. That’s the absolute most I can afford.
Does anyone have any experiance with the Earlex 5500 or anything comparable? Any advice, review or help is greatly appreciated.
BTW – I’m a hobbiest, not a professional but want the best results I can get.
Thanks in advance!
Ray

Earlex
I have the earlier 5000 model, and have been quite pleased with it. The trick, I think, is to get the viscosity right (the instructions cover this), and then practice a bit in terms of technique (spray head distance, movement speed, etc.). Also, pay attention to ventillation, particularly with solvent-based finishes.
Well, to go to the very next level, go to actual milk paint. The General Finishes is just an ordinary acyrlic paint in milk paint colors. No comparison to the genuine article which is MUCH more durable with a more interesting appearance. You mix these from powders. The two most widely known are Real Milk Paint whose web site is http://www.realmilkpaint.com and Old Fashioned Milk Paint which you may find at http://www.milkpaint.com. Both have been around a very long time. No need for spraying with either product.
