Problem – I have an old Tiwanese shaper . I was attempting to change the spindle and after disengaging the spindle set knob I attempted to raise the spindle by using the spindle raising handwheel but instead of raising it I lowered it (I was tired and I`m left handed), the spindle rotated off of the raising/ lowering gear and fell to the bottom of the spindle shaft. Now the spindle is wedged at the bottom of the shaft and I can`t move it and get it out.
If anyone has any suggestions on how I might get it out I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Difficult to say without actually seeing the thing or having experienced that problem. But take heart-these things are never as bad as they seem. I suggest you hang back a bit , have a good look at everything, clean it and possibly you will find the answer without having to do a lot of work....Often things are assembled in a way that is not obvious at first.
tcp,
Many shapers spindle housings are simply bolted to the underside of the table top and have a pulley on the bottom end .
If this is the case , and it won't come out the way it went in like with a strong magnet and a good soak of penetrating oil WD40 er such , if no luck then you could carefully and with help turn it upside down and see if the spindle will drop .
If not I think un bolting the housing if it is built this way may be a simple solution , unless the spindle housing comes apart ?
good luck dusty
