I would like to try my hand at some bowl turning. I already have a few spindle gouges. Do I need to purchase a new bowl gouge or can I just regrind one of my spindle gouges? What size would be the best for work under ten inches?

You need a bowl gouge to make bowls. It has a deeper flute and therefore a deeper cross section. This keeps the tool from flexing and breaking when it extends several inches beyond the tool rest. This happens when hollowing the inside of the bowl. A spindle gouge is used sparingly on small details of bowls.
