I have an old Porter Cable Porta-Plane, Model 126 and have a spiral cutter that needs resharpening–or if that’s not possible, replacing. (Part 43233). Does anyone have any idea of a source for resharpening the blade (which is dull with one small nick, but otherwise okay.) Failing that, is there any source for this part? I have found a Carbide blade, but I would much prefer a steel blade.
I don’t trust my eye and hand to file the spiral blade down to remove the nick and keep it true..

Stop by a machine shop and ask who sharpens their end mill bits. Or find the best bicycle shop in the closest city that deals with road racing bikes and ask who sharpens their facing tools. Often there is some guy who stops by and picks up cutters who does this out of his house. There is a guy here that has been doing that as a side line for twenty years or more.
Doesn't charge much.
Nice little gig. Always wanted one of those precision grinders.

Where are you located? I've always found Doug Pellegrini at Needham Saw (Massachusetts) to be able to help me out. 781 444 9215
Did you try your local yellow pages under sharpening??? Why do so many people feel that what they need sharpened is "special and unique"? Your tooling is pretty much what most professional sharpening services have been doing for many years.
Checked around with local and regional sharpening services - no luck. I have a lead on a fellow in Florance, South Carolina (I live near Asheville, NC) that may pan out. Otherwise I will follow up on suggestions made by others.
Thanks for your suggestion.
