Well everyone I figured I would gloat just a bit about my recent discovery. In case you didn’t already guess by the discussion title I ran across some perfectly spalted white oak just laying on the ground near my hunting stand and just had to see and much to my delight its B-A-UTIFUL!!!! But, theres also some staining and I was wondering if I could bleach that out without taking out the spalt. If anyone has ever tried it I would like to know the results.

What did the outside of the wood look like? Was it covered in mold or fungi? Just wondering what caught your attention, or how you recognized it might be something special.
Hey, yes it did have some fungi growing on it and a little sponginess on the very outside plus I had known about it sitting there for a while but figured a watched pot doesn't boil so I left it there until now and it looks great. By the way I got some oxalic acid wood bleach today so I'll try that myself and post the results. Thanks for your interest.
