Although I don’t stain many items these days, I have a curly maple sideboard that I want to stain to enhance the curl. I went to my most recent Woodworker’s Supply catalog as I had previously used and liked the J E Moser brand of water soluble aniline dyes and found the color I wanted listed at $9.19 for a 1 ounce container. When I went to the website to order it, the price is now $11.19, a 25% increase. I know everything is going up but 25% in a couple of weeks is ridiculous. So now the question – is there another source of J E Moser water soluble dyes? I’ve searched and not found another supplier. Maybe I’m not looking in the right place. If there is no other source, what are alternate water soluble dyes that you have used successfully?

J.E. Moser is the house brand for dyes manufactured by W.D. Lockwood. My guess is that the price increase reflects petrochemical price changes at the sources. Some retailers may be slower in adjusting prices so you can check around for the Lockwood dyes. Searching on google for W.D. Lockwood will turn up a number of sellers.
I did notice that http://www.toolsforworkingwood.com lists their price at $6.95 per ounce.

Thanks for your help. The price difference is incredible. I've not purchased from Tools for Working Wood before but will keep them on my short list.
You could also purchase from lockwood direct

I can highly recommend them. I've purchased Lockwood dyes from them amongst other things. They definitely appreciate their customers.Best regards,
Paul
