Gary, I am building bookcases using a Solid cherry top and 3/4″ cherry plywood sides and bottom.
I have routed grooves in the solid top and was wondering about gluing solid and plywood together.
I thought I might apply glue only to the front half of the joint to allow for wood movement
of the solid top. Do you have any other suggestions?
Thank you,
Billboy

Hey Billboy,
Yeah, I have a suggestion. Build the top out of plywood too and then plant on the solid wood top using screws in slotted holes. It will make for a stronger case while allowing for expansion. Make the solid wood top 3/4" wider and now you have introduced a design element as well. If
you routed your grooves through, patch them with cherry and cut a 45 degree bevel around the edge of the top. This will help to hide the edge. Good catch on this. Gary
Thank you for your time Gary.
