So you say you want to be a cabinetmaker
My father is a cabinetmaker. Two of his four sons are cabinetmakers. We’ve got a welder in the family, too. And then that #2 guy who prescribes ‘meds”.
I have a prized photo of the hands of an anonymous auto mechanic in my office. It was taken in his shop: Bloody and brutal. Hands that have made more than a few mortgage payments, I guess.
What is the greatest shop tool? The hand of man. Arthritic, scarred, 80 grit flesh and all.

Funny story...
As a hobbyist woodworker, fisherman, outdoorsman, DIYer and general hands-on knucklehead, I have acquired myself some fairly gnarly hands. In my real job as a Financial Advisor, I often shred my good ties just tying them.
Anyway, I recently cut my hand at work and had to go to the emergency room to get 10 stitches. The wound was on my hand between my thumb and forefinger (right at that first knuckle). So the nurse cleans it up and the surgeon comes in. They use much thinner needles for the novacaine [sic] now, and she had real trouble poking it into my hand. She finally did that, and proceeded to try to stitch me up. That curved needle kept making a big dimple before it finally punctured the skin. On about the fifth stitch, she finally said, "What do you do?" To which I replied, "I'm a financial advisor." She just looked at me until I laughed and told her about my hobbies.
You should have had my MOM.. She was a Air Force Nurse or was it Army? Not sure..I was running with a wooden ruler back from School.. I fell, it went through my lower jaw and out my right cheek! My Mom stitched it with SILK she used for her Needle Work! I got dirt in it and she took me to the Doctor.. As I remember he asked her if she had any ideas about being a surgeon? And another..So the nurse cleans it up and the surgeon comes in..Very long story but to keeo it short lets just say I got a REALLY BIG sliver I got in my hand.. (I could not get it out by myself!) I went to the local ER.. Not a Hospital but a local clinic?I am not sure who She was.. BUT VERRY PRETTY! Made me relax! She Polked in me for what seemed hours.. I finally told her GET OUT YOUR SHARPEST KNIFE AND CUT ALONG THAT DARK LINE YOU SEE! I'm OK with blood I see.. Even if it is my own! She said she did not want to HURT ME! I told her you have been doing that POLKIN' around and I bet it hurst more than that cutting!!She never realized I was serious! I still remember her! I hope She is a good! doctor thes days!

Me holding my six month old daughter after a hard season of carpentry recently (see attachment?). Great thread. Been doing cabinetry lately and it can also be very hard work!

Although your hand has a cut I am glad it appears to be still attached.
