I have a friend who is working on a project for which he needs a tool that will cut a number of slots about 3/64″ by 1/2″ deep in the edges of panels. I believe that he could use a router bit that has a little slotting saw for a cutter but I haven’t had any luck finding them on the web (or elsewhere). Does anyone here know of a source or have other ideas for tools which will do this job? |

Hello and good morrning
3/64" is pretty small. but I belive you might have some luck looking at HD in the Rotozip eara, there spiro saw blades, are pretty small. You just might find your bit there.
Good luck.
How about getting a 1/16 slot cutter and having a sharpening service side grind it to width.I think you may have just enough clearance to do this without grinding the body.Look also at metric slot cutters and different makers as a source
There are little saw blades for the Dremel Moto Tool. They make a .025 kerf, so you might consider mounting two on the mandrel. I don't think I'd try to mount them into a real router. Rather, I'd build a fixture that holds the mototool so it is is like a router.

I just purchased them at Home Depot, the only place around that sells them in my area. You can aslo buy various widths and stack them to the needed thickness. Amana also sells and you should be able to find them online. Try ballew saw and tool
Buy a slitting/slotting saw arbor from a machine supply company like MSC or McMaster-Carr. You can get them with a 1/2" shank to fit a router collet. Get the saws from the same source.
I'd start at the lowest speed on the router and work up gradually.
WKW had .050" thick 3 wing slotter (I have one).
Routers
Hmmm .... .050" should be close enough for the intended use here. Where would I reccommend that my friend get one of those? I am unfamiliar with WKW. This sounds like the best option that I have discovered yet.
