greetings friends~
Is there a generally accepted maximum width for a single door on a lower cab? I am doing a cusom built-in which has is divided up into 3 bays over 70in. Client has requested the two doors be on opposite sides, and the middle be a drawer. To add to the strangeness, the faceframe opening for these doors are only 16″ tall. What would you guys do? I am trying to get away from doing double doors.
thanks

Hi stephen ,
I'm sure you will get lots of answers and they will mostly all be right .
The maximum width for a single cabinet door hovers around 22 1/2" more or less , that's the cutoff point I was taught and close to an acceptable industry standard .
If your doors will be frame and panel you could place a center stile and make split panel doors for a classy look .
sometimes a small split pair looks sweet as well

thanks for the help. I really appreciate it. I will do a mock-up and see how everything lays out.stephen
I don't think you have a problem as far as the wood technology is concerned. But personally I don't like doors that are wider than they are tall. Dusty's suggestion would improve the esthetics and also make a better door. But if the customer insists, you could make it as planned.
