shoulder strap to hold up a tool belt
I am looking for a strap (suspenders) device that crisscross over the shoulders that is made to hold a heavy tool belt from slipping down over my hips and being generally uncomfortable loaded with tools and equipment.
I have an apron that I wear in my woodshop that has cross straps that keep the load on my shoulders as well as my waist.
My problem is that the tool belt tends to slide down after a while. A Suspender would be nice. Does anyone know of a wide, heavy duty suspender (about 3″ wide) for this purpose that attaches to a wide belt? I don’t want it to be stupid looking or carry flags, stars or anything like that. It would be nice if it was made of the same material as my belt which looks a little like an old army belt only black in color.

Years ago, I bought two solid black like you asked about and I think they came from either Lowes or Home Depot. That was in the days before the stars, ruler, etc designs.
Just a thought.. Look around at a local Army Surplus.. They have ALL sorts of stuff you could use/modify???
Like WillGeorge said, an Army surplus LBE (load bearing equipment) set of suspenders is what I use.
Check out Occidental Leather's web site. They've got some great "beltless" systems, as well as some things for holding up your belt.

I also saw some good suspenders in the Duluth Trading catalog.

All were good ideas, but Duluth looked like a good idea and I bought one.
Skillers
...they have some impressive tool belts...
...they have vests designed as a belt substitute...
...they have shoulder straps and attachments on clearance sale...
Good luck!
Eric, sounds like you need to gain some weight ;-)

I wish that was the problem.
I have leather tool bags that I wear long days, and they can get pretty loaded down. I tried buying some suspenders from HD, but the little gator clamp things wouldn't open wide enough to bite into the belt. So, I went to my lumber company, where I should have started in the first place. I think they were made by CLC, but I'm not sure...Just plain blue. Or maybe black.

I received the ones I ordered for $9.?? from Duluth mentioned by someone earlier in this thread. They seem to be great. All kinds of support including a side strap that provides balance to the side of the belt and provides a more even support around all sides of the belt. Seem to be very well thought out. I also got one for my son since he also has the belt I got at Home Depot. The suspenders are black and seem very comfortable. Since I did not load the belt yet, I can't tell you how well they feel loaded, but I know they will take a lot of the load off of my waist.
Oddly enough, I got my CLC suspenders at HD.My goal is for my work to outlast me. Expect my joinery to get simpler as time goes by.
Yeah, it was wierd...I bought 2 pair of CLC suspenders at HD-neither worked. So I gave up, and tried the lumber company, and they worked first time.

I just got a pair from Duluth trading company. They were only 10 bucks. The first pair I got had a broken clip. I called them and they just sent me another pair with no need for return. Great customer service and a very good product. They have several types of tool belt suspenders. I got the 'master series' set and they work like a charm.
