I need to build a demountable/ portable extraction unit that I can put in front of a window or door to pull spray fumes out of the shop when finishing. WIthout going nuts what sort of extraction rate should i be looking at and what size/ diameter fan would work best. My spray system is HVLP so overspray is reasonably low but its the fumes that I want out.
Thanks for any advice.

I bought a little window fan unit with 2 fan motors (side by side) that is meant as a household cooling device from Wal-Mart. It is the kind that you stick in the window and pull the sash down on the frame to hold it in place. I bet it only cost $35. I then built a little "box" on the bottom of the window so the fan can sit between it and the window sash at an angle, this allows the sash to be partially pulled down to control air flow, to keep rain out and to give me a measure of security and privacy.
I find this unit moves a lot of air and fumes for a low price. If you don't beleive that it works all you need to do is walk past while I am using some varnish. It will pull out most airborne dust in just a few minutes. Turned around it will bring fresh air into the room quickly.
