When thinking about what keeps me out of my basement shop these past few years it would have to be the additional time I spend careing you our small child. Marge travels with her work now and is out of town about 40% of the time. It will not last forever and will be a big + for her career as a CPA. I work just 4 miles from home at a growing VAMC as a Rehab Therapist. With great child care right on station I really love taking care of our little Megan Anne. I wish I had been home more when our two sons were young but at that time my work kept me away from home frequently. Now I’m in the shop when something is needed. Right now a doll house just the right size for “Barbie” is “really needed, it has to be blue to, just like the sky”

I'm working from home these days in the shop, and I can honestly say it is a pleasure to have my family near me.
I also do projects with the kids or for the kids or let the kids in to see something "cool" or new (but never when I'm working with power tools!)
I'm also hoping my son who is to turn twelve this year will pick up some good working habits from his old man. He has a great head for figuring out how or why things work just not enough staying power to get the job done just like I was at his age.
Thanks for sharing,

Sounds like other than your wife being gone so much, you have a great situation. It is such a benefit to have child care "on site" at your work site! Glad your enjoying her youngsterhood.
That was my reason for taking this job years ago, that and the great med insurance that covered our older boys already in collage. At the time I didn't know there would be as much room to grow as it turned out. Now as we look at retirement am I ever glad I decided to be a "Fed".
Cherish the time while you can. I took my 2nd daughter to college last Saturday (sophomore), and I'm taking my son, my youngest, to his University on this Saturday.
The nest is empty and quiet, and I don't like it.

LOL! Give it time -- you'll learn to love it.
Or get a dog.
