Super machine if space is an issue
I have had a Shopsmith since the late 80s and since I retired 10 years ago I use it almost every day.
My 'shop' is 1/2 of a two-car garage that must be occupoied each night by my wife's car, so the fact that it rolls around makes that possible.
I have the 4" jointer and the bandsaw, but gave up the planer for a DeWalt also on wheels. Everything, including the sanding disk and the saw blades kare up against or on the back wall.
Yes, it does take some time to get it all aligned and to change from one tool to another, but I have lots of time since I do only personal work - I don't do commission work..
I really suggest that you look at and join (free) the Shopsmith Forums. Any question you have will be answered by somebody who really knows what they are doing with Shopsmiths.

Shopsmith
We bought our SS in '82 when I left the service, and have had it and used it regularly since. Over time I've ditched the planer, jointer and bandsaw for heavier duty and more capacity, but it still serves as my drill press, sanding station, and lathe. I tried to sell it when we moved 5 years ago, but had no offers, which is just as well, as it is still used almost every day that I'm in the shop.
I still have the jig saw (has leaked oil since new) and the belt sander, but the other attachments had too little capacity once I grew into larger projects.
But it worked well for what I needed, when I needed it.
