I was wondering if anyone had any good designs for mobile bases for an older unisaw with extended fences and a delta shaper. I don’t know how to weld so I was wanting to make make them out of wood. I’ve seen people putting castors under the cast iron bases of these machines but I wonder if they are tippy? And with the extended fence on the tablesaw, I don’t think this will work very well. So does anyone have any ideas or pictures of there homemade bases?

Matt,
I haven't made a wooden base, but did weld a mobile base for my last contractor saw similar to Ridgid's. I think that the best design is to have either retractable wheels or lowering pads to get the wheels off the ground. Pads on threaded shafts also level the tool on an uneven surface. The base on my current Delta contractor saw is made by Delta.

I haven't tried this but Benchmark Woodworking has a design for a wooden mobile base on his web site. See this article http://benchmark.20m.com/tools/Unisaw/UnisawMobileBase/MobileBaseDesignGuide.pdf
