Why do they need to be metal? Wood actually works really well.

kzoo...bought the Incra runners at Woodcraft..cheap enough and are adjustable...never have worry about moisture, etc.
Kzoo,
I have 2 of the kreg miter sliders on a crosscut sled. Very well made with nylon "snuggers" to eliminate play in the miter slot.

We use several shop-made jigs that employ aluminum runners rather than wood. They stay accurate longer. We tend to beat up on jigs and fixtures so the ones we keep around are this way.

I've used wood and more recently, UHMW strips, both with good success. I like the idea of using aluminum too.
