Hello All,
In the planning stages for a custom built shop building and need some help….
Awhile ago, there was a post here regarding a company that sold hardware that enabled “beamless” construction. I have searched the archives with every possible word combination I can think of to no avail.
Anybody remember seeing the post? By any stretch of good luck, did anybody bookmark the company’s website or remember their name?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!!

I assume that you're talking about a "clear span" type of roof construction. You can do that with pre-made wood roof trusses or metal building type construction. Go over to "Breaktime" and ask them about sources. Be sure to give them the span and the size of the shop you're considering.
I'm not sure what you are going to get. Are you going to do it yourself? Construction has changed a bit over the years. One thing that has changed is that some lumber suppliers are helping out with planning for spans and such.
Some of them have become more of a full service place for small builders. I'm not sure if this is just in my area or you have one around you.
I think they are making some of their own trusses if the order isn't too big.
You might call around and see if one of them in your area helps with some of this stuff.
That way you are on the same page as the supplier. After all someone is going to drop them on your work site.
One downside is that their prices might be a bit higher because of the service, but for some people it is worth it.
im not sure what you mean by beamless. im assuming you are looking for no supports other than the exterior walls.
a couple of years ago a friend of mine built a great shop with no interior supporting walls. its 50 x 30 on both floors.
the walls are 2x6 with i think 14" or 16" I-joist at 12"oc. for the roof he called a truss company and they engineered a gambrel roof. the lower floor is 12' ceilings and the second floor peak is 11-6. exterior is metal, roof is metal. huge slider doors in 1 end, roll up door in the side and about 12 windows. concrete foundation and floor. without plumbing and elect it cost him 40grand. its a fantastic and simple design and it was cheap for such a massive building.

Now when i nod my head, you hit it.
Engineered joists will solve your problem. Go to a lumber yard, they will show you several different types by different manufacturers. The manufacturer has their own engineers that will tell you exactly what you need. The engineered joists run about 20 % more than framing lumber. You can get long spans and squeak proof floors with them.
