Gary,
How goes it. I’m shipping a table to Florida from Illinois, and was wondering if any precautions can or should be taken due to the change in humidity. The base is made of walnut with a linseed/wax finish. The top is 18” x 18”, made of curly maple, attatched with table irons, and finished with tung oil and wax. Also, I’ve been firing up the wood stove in the mornings, so I’m sure that my shop climate is quite different than the new home of this table.
thanks,
Jeremy

Jeremy,
Yes, cross your fingers as a precaution.
Seriously, your joinery and construction methods need to take into account the inevitable movement of wood. As long as your table top can continue to expand and expand, [it will be Florida, you know], then it should be fine.
But drying out any piece next to a wood stove would not be considered optimal, especially before shipping it down to the tropics. If you could, I would let it soak up some moisture before packing and shipping it, just to see if everything stays flat. Best of luck. Gary
